KDDI Corp., Navitime Japan Co. Ltd. and Toyota Motor Corp. have managed to successfully develop a new platform that sends GPS as well as other relevant data from cell phones to car navigation systems over Bluetooth. To kick off this achievement, all three companies will roll out a new service which enables users to transmit their GPS data used for “EZ Navi Walk” – Japan’s version of route guidance service for KDDI’s handsets, over to Toyota’s car navigation systems. This service will be made available only for Toyota’s car navigation systems that are released from the first half of this year onwards. Other car navigation system manufacturers such as Aisin AW Co Ltd, Panasonic Corp and Fujitsu Ten Ltd, have already come forward and indicated their interest in making their products compatible with the service as well. This service plays nice with virtually any handset that is Bluetooth-enabled.
