At Cebit, NVIDIA has announced four new mobile GPUs, the faster ones being the GTX 280M and 260M. According to NVIDIA, they offer close to 50% more performance than their previous mobile offerings. Note that GTX 280M and GTX 260M do not contain the same number of processors than their desktop counterparts (128 vs. 240).
NVIDIA also believes that the GTX 280M is faster (by 30%) than AMD’s 4870HD (for mobile) because AMD had to reduce the operating frequency of their chip by a large amount to fit into a laptop.
