StorCenter ix2 Gets New Firmware

Just when you thought that your StorCenter ix2 was the bomb, along comes a firmware upgrade that makes this delectable device all the better – it allows the Iomega ix2 to offer remote access to stored files via the Web as well as support for peer-to-peer file-sharing services such as BitTorrent. This does away with the need to install an Iomega client on remote computers so that one can remotely access the ix2, and you can now gain leeway to the ix2 in the form of a personalized web address. Year one of access is free with the box, where subsequent years will retail for $10 annually. Torrent files can be transferred straight to the StorCenter which will be the place where download processes are handled, hence one no longer has to leave a spare computer turned on overnight.
