VIA has rolled out a new reference design for motherboards which will see action in a netbook chassis, and it is capable of handling 1080p video playback as well as 8-channel audio without sipping too much power thanks to the conservative VIA C7-M processor. Dubbed the Surfboard C855, this motherboard is able to hold a 1.6GHz VIA C7-M ULV processor on an 800MHz bus alongside the new VX855 HD chipset. Board support includes 1,366 x 768 pixel playback on an internal screen as well as 1,920 x 1,440 pixel playback on an external monitor, handling various formats such as H.264, MPEG2, MPEG-4, WMV9, and VC1 decoding.
