Vigilant Windows System Detects Intruders

Fancy smart windows that are able to detect intruders before they even manage to break into your home? That’s what the Vigilant Windows idea is all about, where it is being developed at the Fraunhofer Institutes for Applied Polymer Research. The glass itself is coated with a special nanoparticle material which is able to convert light into fluorescent radiation, where such energy will be channeled to sensors located along the edge of the window. Whenever someone or something passes by the window, there will be lower amount of light hitting it, where the sensors will then measure the reduced amount of fluorescent radiation produced, subsequently triggering the alarm. The sensors are also smart enough to extrapolate the size of the object, its direction as well as its speed.
