Korea To Deploy Longest Superconductor Power Line

South Korea has to beef up its infrastructure so cope with the surge in electric consumption and one piece of the puzzle seems to reside in the use of a superconducting electric pipeline that will basically do what these huge overhead power lines do, but at a fraction of the volume. South Korea has ordered 50 miles of superconducting cables that will carry 50MW of power (this is huge!). The relatively small size of the new power line can make it easier to put in place, when compared to the overhead alternative. More info at amsc, press release
