Microsoft Stops Mainstream Support For Windows XP

Fly our flags at half mast for today is the day where Microsoft stops mainstream support for their venerable operating system, Windows XP as well as Office 2003. Not all hope is lost, however, as Microsoft will not retire Extended Support until April 18, 2014 rolls around. Should Microsoft release a fourth service pack for XP, that would mean support for SP3 which was released in April last year would be retired in the process. Likewise, the same applies for Office 2003. This would mean being worry-free for at least five more years. Guess netbooks had better up their processing power in the next five years to accommodate Windows 7, as Windows Vista seems to be a lost generation at this point in time.
