Microsoft's Vine: A Twitter For Disaster Situations

Vine is a location-aware twitter-like app that would let one share information with their friends in case of an emergency. Vine runs on Windows (only) and users can send messages and alerts via email or SMS. It is already integrated with Facebook, but the Twitter integration will come later on. Of course, Vine could also be a Twitter clone if you chose to use it that way…

The whole idea about doing an application that’s useful during emergencies is interesting, but also makes it unlikely to get traction. For one, most people don’t even want to think about these events. And secondly, if such an event was to happen, we bet that Twitter would be a better probe for real-time information, just because it has a lot more users. We like Vine’s user-interface though!
