Research firm Strategy Analytics said that we experienced a drop of 13% in units when compared to 2008. Nokia’s unit shipped dropped 19% to 115.5M, Motorola sold 14.7M handsets a 50% drop. Sony Ericsson is down 35% in unit shipments.
Not everyone is affected the same way: Samsung was down 1%, LG 7% and Apple was up by 123%. The market is basically rewarding those who create more customer value. Nokia is still working hard on its platform strategy, Sony Ericsson has found itself to be behind technologically and Motorola seems like an old boxer at round 14. Good luck to all.
