Nintendo Wii Video Service Arrives In Japan On May 1

The Japanese have it good – at least where Wii owners are concerned. Nintendo will be bringing a video distribution service to the Wii in that part of the world on the 1st of May, and it will fall under the guise of the “Wii no Ma Channel” that purportedly includes support for the Nintendo DSi handheld, too. It seems that the Wi no Ma Channel will appear look like a family room where Mii avatars will be able to congregate, and one can also choose from free and paid-for content to remain entertained. It would be interesting to see how the “Dokodemo Wii no Ma” (roughly, “Wii no Ma Anywhere”) application that runs on the DSi works – we do know it enables DSi owners to download video from the Wii to their handheld consoles for portable viewing. It remains to be seen whether Nintendo will launch this service outside of Japan or not.
