Nokia Blogger Email Night

We were invited to the Nokia Blogger Email Night that will focus on email and its evolution, in addition to the recently released Nokia E75 messaging device and its ability to consolidate all of your numerous email accounts into a single inbox. Staying true to the axim that a “hungry (wo)man is an angry (wo)man”, Nokia made sure we were well-fed before the event began.

Hazel Abu Samah, Manager (Communications) of Malaysia for Nokia opened the session after the meal, making a short introduction of herself before handing it over to Bambos Kaisharis, Head of Marketing (Singapore, Malaysia and Brunei). He touched on the evolution of email and messaging, and how the new E75 will be able to help us manage our numerous inboxes regardless of whether they are for work or personal purposes.

The Nokia E75 has already been out in various parts of the world, but that doesn’t detract from the fact that this is one messaging machine that ought to be able to cater across an entire demographic. While whatever Nokia throws at this point in time (same goes to other cell phone manufacturers that do not have a fruity zing to it), it won’t be able to go up against the mighty Apple iPhone 3G despite the iPhone being rather outdated in terms of specifications as well lacking in terms of extensive enterprise support, but what makes it stand out from the rest of the crowd for so long would be the unprecedented ease-of-use (not to mention the cool factor of multitouch), its extremely generous display and the buzz of an upcoming iPhone. Old school speed text typists who place utmost importance on functionality and want to get their message/email across ASAP might want to consider a smartphone with a QWERTY keyboard compared to a multitouch display phone, but we’re sure out there, somewhere, you’ll find someone equally at home with the said multitouch display when it comes to composing long emails and text messages in a jiffy. Depending on which part of the world you’re at, the Nokia E75 will come in red and black colors, with a yellow version in the works.

While this might be new and interesting to those who are just about to jump aboard the mobile email bandwagon, we agree that Palm has done a pretty great job with their webOS platform which they presented at CES 2009 with the Synergy platform offering a much more consolidated form of messaging regardless of whether they’re emails, text messages or instant messages, all arriving from a single contact in a threaded manner for seamless integration.

Kudos to Text100 for organizing the event and making sure everything was well run and on time. For the full account of the night in pictures, check out our gallery. We’ve also summarized our live blog account as follows.
