Robot Developed For Heart Surgery

Heart surgery is extremely complicated as the delicate nature of the operation normally would include stopping the heart artificially in order for surgeons to strut their stuff in a safe manner. Scientists from Japan’s Waseda University might have introduced a revolutionary method by creating a robot that is able to perform similar surgery procedures on a still functioning heart, and this is achieved by adjusting to the rhythm of its beat. This new development enables doctors to operate on patients via a machine, which translates to a far more sterile, precise and flexible environment compared to using the human hand. It is able to calculate the movement of a heart with millimeter accuracy, while shifting its instruments accordingly to operate according to a beating heart as though it was frozen. Initial tests have shown a 95% tracking accuracy with the goal of hitting 98% before it can be used in an operating room.
