The Seagate Replica is a new external USB storage system aimed at simplifying backups. How does it do it? Simply by backing everything up, including the operating system. The software will self install from the USB drive, there’s not much to do. The backup system also keeps several versions of each files, in case you realize later on that it is corrupt. It is also possible to restore the PC to the state that it was in on a certain date, a little like Apple’s Time Machine. This is how it is supposed to work anyway – we have not tested the software yet.
The Seagate Replica comes in two versions: a 250GB for a single PC, and a 500GB dubbed “multi-PC” that comes with a dock. Both capacities seem a bit small, but that should work for many laptops. Seagate.com
