At least for the first time in 16 months anyway. Sales of the PS3 in Japan actually surged 80% in the last five weeks of March from a year ago, while demand for the Wii plummeted by almost 63% to 99,335. This is partly due to release of new games from popular franchises such as Resident Evil 5, helping push the PS3′s sales figures beyond the Wii’s reach for the first time since November a coupe of years ago. It seems that there is also the issue of market saturation where the Wii is concerned, since virtually everyone has one in Japan hence having them look for something different. Sony could make do with this good news, but this minor victory won’t see it overhaul Nintendo in overall consoles sold to date where the current generation is concerned. As for the Xbox 360 in that region, it is basically persona non grata.
