At first glance, the upcoming Windows 7 Starter Edition looks set to be pretty lame since it has a cap to the number of applications that can run simultaneously (a paltry trio), but when you place it in a netbook context, it doesn’t sound too shabby either. After all, most netbooks are used to browse through the Internet (with tabbed windows it becomes all the more convenient), run a productivity software like Microsoft Office 2007 with MP3 playback software running in the background. And with more and more applications making the move to being Web-based, you might not even need to fire up Office in the future as all your documents can be stored online instead. It would be interesting to see just how wide the adoption rate of Windows 7 Starter Edition will be when it is finally released.
