Don’t be too thrilled that the upcoming Windows 7 will be able to handle XP programs in a special “XP Mode”, as doing so will place a great strain on most average computers. While the advent of a new operating system almost translates to a new computer purchase/upgrade most of the time, it would be interesting to see just how many will do so this time round with Windows 7. After all, the Virtual PC technology that is used in Windows 7 will require at least 2GB RAM alongside a system that is powered by a processor that has chip-level virtualization (Intel or AMD will do fine). “At least 2GB RAM” in PC-lingo often means around double that amount for decent performance, as we all well know that minimum system requirements often disappoint where performance is concerned.
