The HifiMAN HM-801 portable media player (PMP) is something different from the rest of the market, as it brings together a a Burr-Brown PCM1704 DAC and a OPA627 op-amp in a single modular unit which allows you to use your own amplifier if you want to. Sound quality isn’t compromised though as it boasts full support for FLAC and lossless WMA. It does lack video support, media-related features and internal storage of any sort, so make sure you have a healthy collection of SDHC memory cards if you want to use the HifiMAN HM-801 which will retail for $700 a pop this June.
