HP Recalls 15,000 Batteries

Looks like there is yet another recall exercise, and this time it will involve HP and 15,000 batteries in notebooks that have made their way across China. According to Reuters, these lithium-ion cells have been known to overheat, and so far confirmed affected devices include HP Pavillion, Compaq Presario and HP Compaq models that rolled off the manufacturing lines sometime in late 2007 and early 2008. While China’s quality-control regulator AQSIQ has suggested that the batteries pose a fire hazard when used in extreme conditions, we don’t think you’d be lugging your notebooks around to “extreme conditions”, would you? The battery replacement program by HP China will be free.
