NEC Cuts RFID Cost By 90%

According to Nikkei (subscription req.) , NEC has found a way to sell RFID tags for only 10% of the cost of competitors. That effectively means that there’s little excuse left on the procurement side for not using RFID.

NEC’s tags work with existing systems but the company also provides services, software and hardware – that’s a good source of income. WalMart is known to use RFID, and retail is really where the growth is.
