Sony HD Camera Module

Sony has just announced a new high-definition camera module which boasts an 8.3-megapixels rating, which is capable of recording 720p video at 30 frames per second. It isn’t big by any measure either, where it will measure 0.37″ x 0.28″, making it the smallest in the world with such capabilities. Known as the MCB1172 module, it will target both security and industry applications, and is the result of the hard work from Sony Europe’s Image Sensing Solutions Division. Features of the MCB1172 module include a movie stabilization function, face detection, autofocus and motion autofocus. In addition, it will be able to record under low-light conditions, while a built-in high-sensitivity mode and a slow-motion feature lets you record at an amazing 120fps. No idea on pricing, but it is already ready for mass production.
