Acer will be shipping Android-powered netbooks next year that will also be able to dual boot with Windows XP, depending on the types of applications that you want to use at that moment, according to Acer chairman JT Wang. We guess that most manufacturers prefer to play it safe until a clear cut winner is declared, as the same goes for HTC and their continued support for both Windows Mobile and Android-powered handsets. After all, it would be folly to make mistakes that would affect the company’s bottomline especially at a time like this, so hopefully consumer acceptance of the Android platform will be clearer in the future.

Android Android is mobile operating system from Google. The software was originally built by a company called Android Inc, that was purchased by Google in 2005. From its modest debuts, Android has become a powerhouse that powers not only smartphones and tablet, but a host of other less high-profile devices and gadgets. Although Android is not a community-driven project, Google does release the source code as open-source under the Apache license.
