Word is out that an Android version of the eReader will appear in “mid to late summer” – at least that’s what Scott Pendergrast at Fictionwise claim. While it won’t start out by reading ePub, a similar capability will be introduced shortly thereafter. This new eReader will also be able to handle ePub wrapped in Fictionwise’s DRM as well as nonDRMed ePub. Not only that, there will also be a Linux version of the eReader that ought to be out later in the near future. Ah well, when that happens, iPhone owners have one less thing to brag about.

Android Android is mobile operating system from Google. The software was originally built by a company called Android Inc, that was purchased by Google in 2005. From its modest debuts, Android has become a powerhouse that powers not only smartphones and tablet, but a host of other less high-profile devices and gadgets. Although Android is not a community-driven project, Google does release the source code as open-source under the Apache license.
