HP has just announced its new range of Electronic Skins, also known as eSkins, that will function as a new display technology for the personalization of consumer electronics products. This flexible reflective color film is able to be used on a wide range of devices ranging from cellphones to digital cameras, MP3 players, netbooks and notebooks. In addition, eSkins is capable of reflectively display icons and alpha-numeric characters for that added touch of personalization. The new device architecture plays nice with roll-to-roll plastic circuits, allowing it to merge with proprietary, electrically controllable “inks” to achieve print-like color performance and transparency. Visibility is excellent even under direct sunlight, and it can also turn into a transparent state electronically to reveal what lies beneath. [Press Release]
