Intel 34nm technology cuts SSD price by 60%

Intel has just announced the X25M 160GB solid state drive (SDD) built with an 34nm (nanometers) process. By using a higher density process, Intel is able to use less silicon surface, which reduces costs – by up to 60%, says the company.

At the same time, Intel has improved the performance of the new drives, with a 25% reduction in latency (wich was already quite low in the previous version). Random writes performance has also been improved, even as the older Intel X25-M was already leading most benchmarks.
