Both the SMX-K45 and SMX-K40 are standard definition (SD, 720×480) camcorders with a 52x optical zoom and optical image stabilization. Hopefully, the recording quality is decent and both devices could be good candidates for web videos, although recently, the YouTube quality has gone up quite a bit… Among the differences, the SMX-K40 can record on removable flash cards only, while the SMX-K45 has a 32GB SSD. We think that most folks would be content with a 16GB card, which is worth about $40 online. Price: $329 (smx-k40) and $499 (smx-k45).
