Forget about the great portrait artists of the past – Jen Hui Liao’s Self-Portrait Machine is able to machine-assist the “artist” using straps tied to the wrists, making it a snap to sketch a self-portrait right after taking a picture while seated at the device. Currently on display at the Royal College of Art Show, it ought to turn any budding artists into proud ones as they can now claim to do an accurate image of themselves without resorting to an artistically superior contact to do so on their behalf. No idea on the further practical application of this device though…
