Sony’s PlayStation Eye webcam could be getting an upgrade where facial recognition capabilities are added in order to go one up on Microsoft’s Project Natal. It seems that this function will see the light of day pretty soon by being embedded into existing hardware, using current developer libraries available for games studios to do away with the need for specific coding for the new system. According to Sony, this new technology is said to “detect gender and even the age of the face, separate facial features such as the nose, eyes and ears, and even detect whether you’re smiling or not.” Too far fetched? Perhaps not, but then again it could just be psychological propaganda against their rivals.
