34nm Intel X25M SSD shipments halted on fear of data corruption

A SSD firmware issue that might cause a loss of data seems to be at the origin of Intel’s decision to stop shipping 34nm-based Intel X25M SSDs. The problem happens only when a BIOS password is setup to limit access to the drive. If the password is changed or removed data is corrupted on the SSD. That’s pretty bad… We’re not sure how Intel can warn its customers, but if you own one, we hope that you see this in time. If not, we hope that you have good backups…

We previously covered the new Intel 34nm SSDs. They basically are cheaper, faster and better – except for this problem. Read our review of the first generation X25M.
