AMD claims the lead in discrete graphics market share

AMD just announced that it has reached the coveted “number 1″ position with a 53% of mobile discrete* GPU market share. According to AMD, its ATI HD 4000 is selling like hotcakes, particularly the Radeon HD 4530 and Radeon HD 4670 that support DirectX 10.1. AMD says that it has 200 “design-wins” (contracts with current or future commitments). [Press release]

*discrete means that the GPU is not integrated in the chipset that controls the motherboard functions. Intel is probably still the overall leader if integrated graphics are taken into account.
