Garmin’s latest portable navigation device, the nuvi 1690 has recently run the gauntlet at the FCC and passed with flying colors, boasting a bevy of connectivity options including Bluetooth, GSM, GPRS and EDGE. In addition, you will probably get real-time traffic downloads, POI updates, Google Local searches and two way route transfer from a desktop or online interface. Bear in mind that the nuvi 1690 won’t support voice calls though, but the built-in Bluetooth connectivity will transform this into an impromptu hands-free kit as well. A 1,000mAh battery powers this device, and it looks likely that a generous touchscreen display will be at the front of the PND.
