Major merger exercise a possibility

Whispers abound that Casio, Hitachi and Sharp, three of Japan’s major cellphone manufacturers could be entering into a joint venture that will result in one of the biggest companies of its type. Apparently, their joint efforts would result in a phone-only company that might see action as early as April next year onwards. This move was taken in order to consolidate businesses after the combination of economic fallout and a generally saturated Japanese cellphone market.
