Nvidia preparing 2010 laptops chips, including Core i7 compatible chipsets

Reports from Taiwan suggest that Nvidia is set to launch MCP89 and MCP99, two motherboard chipsets for Intel processors and MCP85 for AMD-based laptops. They would enter production in the first quarter of 2010, a normal period for such rollout (the PC industry’s pulses in February and October).

Unconfirmed sources report that Apple would use MCP89 and MCP99, which suggest that we won’t see a Macbook with Core i7 until next year. MCP89 supports DirectX10 and is used with Intel Core 2 processors. On the other hand, MCP99 is supposed to be used with the Intel Core i7 architecture and that is the subject of a lawsuit between Intel and Nvidia. It’s not surprising that Nvidia is moving forward while working the legal issue at the same time rather than sit around and hope for the best. By the time Intel sued, Nvidia had probably invested enormously in MCP99 already.
