In a surprising twist of fate, Panasonic and NEC have pledged to release nine more cellphones that will boast the LiMo open-source operating system. This move will also see Japanese mobile carrier KDDI and touchscreen company Immersion Corp. working together in this project, where they hope that the final result will be able to gain some traction in an already crowded mobile operating system market. While open source systems will cost less to run in the future, the established pecking order at this moment would mean LiMo has a tough fight on its hands to squeeze its way among the crowd.
