The Rescue Stick is a baton-shaped concept device that ought to be made mandatory on any ocean-going vessel, since it comes with strings that will experience a chemical reaction the moment they hit the water, dissolving to unveil a horse-shoe shaped float. Just in case the reaction fails, there is always the classic back-up plan of inflating the float manually, presumably using a straw just like the traditional life jacket. It would be interesting to see developments made on this idea, surely aircrafts would also want this in their cabins due to the smaller amount of space they take up when deflated.
