Touch Book user interface unveiled

The Always Innovating Touch Book resides in a very strange niche, where it lies between netbook and tablet-style UMPC territory. The price isn’t overwhelmingly expensive either, as $299 will net you a low power, touchscreen computer powered by a custom Linux user interface. Throw in another Benjamin and you will receive a base station complete with a built-in keyboard that soups up the entire conglomerate as it is now classified as a mini-laptop with an 8.9″ touchscreen display. The Linux interface is still in beta mode, which means there are still some ways to go before it is ready for the masses despite the fact that the Touch Book has already begun to ship. You will find a bunch of lightweight applications such as the Gnumeric spreadsheet app and an MPlayer included. The TouchBook will run on a low power TI OMAP3530 processor, 256MB RAM, 256MB flash memory, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity, seven (!) USB 2.0 ports and an SD memory card slot.
