We would like to thank everyone who followed today’s Apple event live with us. It’s always exciting to capture these events (with Apple, but also others) and to share them live with you all. We know that you can’t wait *one hour* to know what’s going on in there! We’re grateful, so “thanks!”
Head to the full post to see everything that was captured. If you just want to see the latest products, check out the short hands-on with the new iPod nano and the posts about the iPod touch 3G and iPod Shuffle price cut. Obviously all the fine details are on Apple’s website.
Note: this is in reverse chronological order, so, to see it from the start, go to the full post, start by the bottom of the post and make your way up.
Sep 9, 11:16 PT, Conclusion
As expected, Apple has released an iPod with a camera. The cases had given that away for a while. What wasn’t expected is that they would go after the Flip, and if the video quality is there (it should be), Flip is going to feel the pain.
“Thank you for coming and see you soon” (Steve Jobs)

Sep 9, 11:02 PT, Flip: dark days ahead…
So… why would you buy a Flip? (That’s assuming that the video quality is the same or better. (You know what’s missing? A microphone input…)
Sep 9, 11:01 PT, Has someone been eating too much?
It’s true that if you’re going to spend the money, why not get a nano? The videos are (of course) YouTube friendly.
For its defense, the flip said that it has an integrated USB connector. Hum… so!?
Sep 9, 11:00 PT, Free = iPod nano + camera integrated
Oh, right, that’s one way of looking at it
It’s like buying a laptop and getting a “free” integrated webcam.
Sep 9, 10:59 PT, Huh???

Sep 9, 10:57 PT, iPod Shuffle
The displayless iPod has not been so successful by all accounts and even on the stage of an Apple event, it’s hard to be excited by that one.

Sep 9, 10:48 PT, Madden “touch” : custom UI
The game is pretty well done. The interesting part is that they have designed a custom interface. You can tap on a player directly to take control. It’s intuitive.

Sep 9, 10:43 PT, he player has to move
he player has to move the device left and right to stay on the track.
It’s a mix of Guitar Hero and…I don’t know what
The idea is that you have to move in rythm to not only stay on track, but also get power-ups and additional points.
The music is pretty cool, btw

Sep 9, 10:40 PT, [No Title]
Sep 9, 10:38 PT, Is more better?
Apple has more games on its platform, but I’m sure that the debate will rage about whether or not their games are “better”.
Sometimes they are really goo, sometimes not.
Sep 9, 10:37 PT, Shopping experience
Here’s what Apple thinks of the shopping experience on the DS and the PSP… in contrast, Apple uses an all-digital distribution platform, which it says is much better.
Sep 9, 10:36 PT, Gaming on iPod touch
It’s clear that the sheer volume of devices out there makes the iphone/ipod touch platform impressive.
That said, I disagree when Apple says that gaming on the PSP or DS doesn’t stack up to the iPhone. The (PSP/DS) games are actually often better in my opinon, but the DS and the PSP aren’t good at anything else, and the PSP is not really pocket-friendly.
Sep 9, 10:34 PT, Ouch
Sep 9, 10:33 PT, iPod touch qualities
style="MARGIN-BOTTOM: 10px; MARGIN-LEFT: 20px">We’re going over all the reasons why the iPod touch is great. Among them: the iPod is also a small “computer”. The email+web capabilities are being praised. It’s hard to contradict them on that. It is still the best mobile web experience out there.
Other reason: there’s a TON of apps.
Sep 9, 10:31 PT, 20 Million iPod Touch sold!
in addition of the 30M iPhones… that’s pretty impressive.
Apple is pushing the iPod touch here. This is the future of iPod…
Sep 9, 10:29 PT, iPod competition: ouch
Sep 9, 10:29 PT, 225M iPod sold since the start
Sep 9, 10:28 PT, iPod update!
Sep 9, 10:28 PT, For movies too: iTunes Express
Bonus content is there fore (some) movies too. Here’s an example from Wall-E. Nice Pixar plug!
That’s it for the iTunes 9 demo. (big round of applause)
Sep 9, 10:26 PT, More iTunes LP content
Sep 9, 10:25 PT, iTunes LP
Call it metadata if you want, but hardcore fans are going to be happy about this. There is some content that is exclusive to iTunes. “Ouch” for the competition.
Sep 9, 10:23 PT, New store design: makes buying easier
Now you can preview content from the charts and buy right from the charts.
A wishlist has been added (good!) and shared to Facebook or other social services.
It’s pretty smart, that could be a gift idea and this will boost the revenues while making the search easier.
Sep 9, 10:21 PT, Home Sharing Demo
It is possible to stream music from another computer, but also simply copy the tracks.
It’s not really complicated, but the question is: wouldn’t that be better to get a centralized server? May be, but it’s also more complicated to setup and use. In the end, duplication might not be so bad, when storage is cheap.
Sep 9, 10:19 PT, iTunes Apps management
Managing the phone from a computer is comfy. That’s particularely true when you have enouh storage to add a bunch of stuff in it.
Being able to manage the apps from iTunes 9 seems really handy.
Sep 9, 10:18 PT, This is pretty explicit
Sep 9, 10:18 PT, iTunes Demo….
Sep 9, 10:17 PT, iTunes LP
To get more info about the songs and the albums that you like, Apple has worked with artists to bring additional content for iTunes users.
Sep 9, 10:15 PT, Home sharing
Allows the replication (or streaming) of content to up to 5 computers in the home.
It is possible to see unique content from another computer as well. It makes the selection easier when you want to copy files over.
That works in iTunes, obviously.
Sep 9, 10:13 PT, Better sync… for apps too!
Sync is getting better for all media (song, photos, movies)
The cool thing is that you can also manage which apps is on your phone.
Sep 9, 10:11 PT, Genius…
Apple has analyzed 54M songs to make Genius smarter. Genius mixes is a “virtual DJ”.
