Who would’ve thought that traditionally dumb CCTV security systems have been improved to such a level where they are smart enough to know whether an assault is going to happen – at least that is what a major research project has concluded. The system showed such promise when tested under laboratory conditions, scanning the passengers on a bus for suspicious behaviour associated with crime before coming to such a conclusion. These CCTVs will then send live pictures to operation rooms, where controllers are able to send in a task force or alert the bus driver of a potentially dangerous situation, and if successful, could reduce the impact of crime on public transportation.
