Honda U3-X unicycle robot

Honda seems to be delving pretty much into the world of robotics, and their latest release would definitely pose a challenge to Segway. Known as the U3-X, this self-balancing unicycle from Honda comes with what looks like a regular large wheel of a unicycle, although it is actually composed of a handful of smaller wheels in a series that can be rotated independently. The result behind this idea is to allow the device to move in virtually all directions, where you control it with but a lean. This multi-directional capability was realized thanks to all the research work put into its ASIMO robot, and the prototype U3-X is currently able to ferry you up and about in style for up to an hour on a full charge. No word on how much this will cost nor when will it be available, but those heading off to the Tokyo Motor Show can check it out next month. [Press Release]
