Intel Larrabee show up at IDF, in silicon form!

At IDF, Intel showed yet another ray-tracing demo. Although it was mostly “demo” art, it was great for another reason: it was working on an actual silicon version of Larrabee, Intel’s upcoming high-performance discrete GPU. This is no small feat and it confirms our suspicion that Intel had a working silicon for some time now. Their team is probably hard at work to get all the basic stuff running, including DX and GL. Performance analysis is also at the top of their list, as it is just impossible to predict performance on an architecture that is so flexible. It all comes down to how the code will be implemented. The ray-tracing demos are technically cool, but most consumers would now like to see some real game demos. (video in the full post).
