The City of Angels will lead the way by taking a green step by approving LEDway streetlights from BetaLED that will replace the modern cobrahead fixtures found in local and residential neighborhoods in an effort to make the city more eco-friendly. This would mean retrofitting a whopping 140,000 high-pressure sodium (HPS) luminaires to LED technology, taking around 5 years for the entire exercise to complete. Apparently, studies have shown that the use of LED streetlights will reduce the City’s energy usage by 40% while lowering carbon dioxide emissions by 40,500 tons per year, which is equal to removing 6,700 cars off the road. In addition, this translates to savings of around $10 million annually. This, dear readers, is one good way of seeing your tax dollars at work for the benefit of everyone. [Press Release]
