There is some bad news for existing PSP owners who are looking to upgrade to the PSP Go when it’s released. Sony has revealed that it is ditching the UMD conversion plan. It was previously suggested that folks who had original UMD copies of their games would be entitled to get free PSN downloads of the game, so that they’ll be able to play it when they upgrade to the PSP Go. Unfortunately it seems that “legal and technical reasons” will prevent this from becoming a reality. To be honest, it’s hard to imagine why they wouldn’t allow it on technical grounds. If they’re worried about piracy, it’s plausible, but if it’s for a technical reason, it’s going to be hard to swallow.
