Sharp Corp has come out with a blue and violet semiconductor laser, which has optical output as high as 500mW under pulsed operation for Blu-ray disc recorders. Sharp has not decided when it will begin mass-producing the new blue-violet semiconductor , as it has stated that the specifications for triple and quad-layer Blue-ray discs have not been determined yet. Whatever the case may be, we certainly wouldn’t mind more capacity on Blu-ray discs.
