Google is pleased to announce their first device partner which means you no longer need to have a smart meter installed by your utility before booting up Google PowerMeter! Their devices will now play nice with TED 5000 from Energy Inc., where the latter is an energy monitor that measures electricity usage in real-time. TED is short for “The Energy Detective”, and each purchase and installation of TED 5000 will enable you to get a quick view of your personal home energy data thanks to the free Google PowerMeter software tool, letting you access it from the Internet via iGoogle for cellphones. For those who already own a TED 5000, there is the choice of downloading a free firmware upgrade to enable this functionality. [Press Release]
