We reported a while back that the CTIA was clearly in favor of ditching proprietary chargers in favor of the MicroUSB standard by 2012, something which we certainly hope will become reality. If the CTIA’s backing wasn’t enough, now we have the ITU (International Telecommunications Union) backing it up too. In case you didn’t know, the ITU is the tech branch of the UN. In a dream scenario, we’d all be able to charge our devices using the same charger, without having to carry a thousand different adapters when we make a short trip. Hopefully we’ll soon be able to look back and be glad that proprietary chargers are a thing of the past.
