Mercedes Benz recently demonstrated their Smart Stop system – a wireless safety system which will actually stop the car for you whenever you fail to heed a red light. Unfortunately for road users, this technology doesn’t look likely to be implemented in production vehicles anytime soon, since it will need to depend on smart intersections to work. This would mean having Congress, regional/local governments and the entire industry working together which is more or less impossible at this point in time.
