Atheros claimed to have broken new gronud with their AR6003 chip that will offer 802.11n Wi-Fi connectivity to portable devices including smartphones, where it is full well capable of hitting a theoretical maximum speed of up to 85Mbps on the 5GHz band. Apart from the performance boost, it will still use 20% less juice and is able to work in tandem with a Bluetooth chipset running in the same device without causing any troubles. No word on availability, but it is currently being sampled for companies testing the design.
