Material that hardens and softens depending on the situation is always cool, after all, we fairly sure some of you want to make your own Iron Man costume sometime in the near future. A team of researchers at Japan’s Yamagata University have come up with a substance, a mix between high polymer and iron oxide granules, that when subjected to a magnetic field that is 300 milli-tesla strong, will harden 300-fold in under one second become up to 500 times stiffer than plastic. Science is really cool, don’t you think? Now we’ll just have to wait until somebody puts this into mass production and we can have some fun with it.
