
Scotland can now claim to play host to the world’s largest working hydro-electric wave energy device – the Oyster. This machine is Aquamarine Power’s first demonstration-scale wave energy device, and based on the claim that a farm of 20 Oysters would provide enough energy to power 9,000 three bedroom family homes, it’s certainly something worth looking into. With minimal moving parts, and all electrical components being onshore, it should be robust enough to withstand the rigors of Scotland’s harsh seas.
