Folks who own the Archos 5 Android-powered Internet tablet experienced a rather short-lived joy today – first, they received a new 1.6.08 firmware update which fixes a handful of existing features, only to have Archos pull the update from its website later on. Apparently, this was due to a last-minute major issue with the Web Browser, and they will spend the next few days flushing gremlins out of their system. Hopefully Donut will be available shortly after this before we roll into 2010 as it would be great to end the year on a good note.

Android Android is mobile operating system from Google. The software was originally built by a company called Android Inc, that was purchased by Google in 2005. From its modest debuts, Android has become a powerhouse that powers not only smartphones and tablet, but a host of other less high-profile devices and gadgets. Although Android is not a community-driven project, Google does release the source code as open-source under the Apache license.
