What’s the difference between a human and a robotic librarian? None, except that the latter is far more efficient. Librarians have been stereotyped to be drab and boring, but we’re sure you’ve come across some cheerful personalities once in a while. The British Library’s Boston Spa site in West Yorkshire will rely on seven robotic cranes which will be used to retrieve items in its new Additional Storage Building (ASB), and if it goes well, it will eventually house around seven million items from the UK national collection. No longer do you need to walk and peruse through aisle after aisle of books to get what you want – you have electronic, robotic help now!
